• The waters around the island are clear, safe and teeming with fish of every size and hue. In short, Bonaire is a diver's paradise and you'd be a fool to forgo the scuba-diving and snorkelling on offer. The popularity of these waters is underlined by the amount of festivals that take place in Bonaire, such as Dive into Earth Week in April and the Annual Dive Festival in June.
• Sailing charters comes highly recommended: half- or full-day cruises can be arranged round the bay or to Klein Bonaire, the island’s tiny uninhabited sister isle. Every second week of October there is a Sailing Regatta, during which there is a carnival atmosphere on the island. The focus of the regatta is the marina, just a few minutes out of Kralendijk: berthing facilities for various types of vessel, a shipyard, and a drydock make Bonaire a pleasure boater’s retreat.
• Windsurfing is a breeze with Bonaire's climate: whilst you're at it, why not attend some of the competitions hosted by Bonaire, such as the Dutch Antilles Windsurfing Challenge or the Annual King of the Caribbean Freestyle Windsurfing Competition?
• Attend one of Bonaire's many fun-loving festivals, from the colourful Carnival and its finale of the Burning of King Momo and its spectacular fireworks, to the Simadan (Harvest) Festival in Rincon with its songs and dances, and Rincon Day, celebrating the traditions and culture of Bonaire in the island's oldest village.
