Hotels
The number of hotels has expanded in recent years; most are small- to medium-sized, and well equipped; the largest has 170 rooms. Many of the hotels offer accommodation according to one of a number of 'Plans' widely used in the Caribbean; these include Modified American Plan (MAP), which consists of room, breakfast and dinner, and European Plan (EP), which consists of room only. Information can be obtained from the Dominica Hotel and Tourism Association (website: www.dhta.org). There is a 10% government room tax added to hotel bills.
Self Catering
Apartments and cottages offer self-catering, full service and maid service facilities and are scattered around the island.
Guest Houses
There is a variety of guest houses and inns around the island which offer a comfortable and very friendly atmosphere. There is a 5% government tax and 10% service charge on rooms.
Camping/Caravanning
Facilities are available. Overnight safari tours are run by local operators.
Youth Hostels
Hostels are available at Calibishie, Portsmouth and Rosaline. Prices vary.
