Travel Advice

Georgia

Travellers are advised against all travel to Georgia.

Anyone currently in Georgia should consider leaving whilst routes out of the country are still available. Land borders with Armenia, Turkey and Azerbaijan are currently open. The position on air travel is uncertain. Travellers outside Tbilisi should avoid travel if it is not safe to do so and keep up-to-date with developments.

It is advised against all travel to the separatist regions of South Ossetia, Abkhazia and also the upper Kodori Valley (also known as upper Abkhazia). Travellers should exercise particular caution in Svaneti, Pankisi valley, Zugdidi and Tsalenjika districts.

Following the presidential elections on 5 January 2008, the opposition are planning demonstratioins beginning 13 January. Travellers should exercise caution and avoid any demonstrations and large crowds.

Travellers should avoid all land borders with the Russian Federation.

Travellers should be aware of the global risk of indiscriminate terrorist attacks which could be against civilian targets, including places frequented by foreigners.
