Money & duty free for Curacao

Currency information: 

US Dollars are accepted everywhere but the Caribbean Guilder (CMg) is now the official currency, with the Netherlands Antilles Guilder or Florin (ANG; symbol ƒ) to be phased out by 2013. 1CMg =1 ƒ. Notes are in denominations of 200, 100, 50, 20 and 10. Coins are in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 25, 50 cents, 1 guilder, and 5 guilder coins. The Caribbean Guilder will be pegged to the dollar (US$ 1 = CMg 1.79).

Credit cards: 

Major credit cards are widely accepted. Debit cards are accepted in large shops and supermarkets. There are some ATMs.

Travellers cheques: 

Widely accepted. To avoid additional exchange rate charges, traveller's cheques in US Dollars are advised.

Mon-Fri 0800-1530.

Currency restriction: 

The import and export of local and foreign currency is unrestricted. Amounts over €10,000 or equivalent must be declared.

Currency exchange: 

Available in banks and bureaux de change.

Curacao duty free

The following items may be imported into Curaçao by persons over 15 years of age without incurring customs:

• 200 cigarettes or 100 cigarillos (of 3g each) or 50 cigars or 250g of tobacco.
• 1L of liquor (or 2L of liqueur).
• 2L of wine (non-sparkling).
• 50g of perfume.

Banned imports: 

Dogs and cats from Central and South America (except from Surinam).
