Things to do in Delhi

Birdwatching

Situated in the neighbouring state of Haryana, the Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary is about 47km (29 miles) from Delhi. Home to around 250 species, the small lake and marshland is best visited between November and March when more than 100 types of migratory birds visit the sanctuary. Packages are available including entry to the sanctuary, lunch and refreshments.

Tiger spotting

Southwest of Agra, and a few hours' drive or train ride south from Delhi, the Ranthambore National Park offers the opportunity to see the elusive tiger, along with other large wildlife including leopards, hyenas, crocodiles, snakes and much more – an Indian equivalent of a safari. A number of operators will organise inclusive trips, among them Gurgaon-based Tour My India.

Golfing

New Delhi has some excellent golf courses (a legacy of the latter days of the Raj), several of which offer casual memberships for visitors. A good example is the two-course Delhi Golf Club, Dr Zakir Hussain Road, very close to the India Gate and the government buildings, which dates from the 1930s.

Parasailing and other activities

It's possible to arrange a day trip (or longer) out of Delhi to try your hand at parasailing at Kanwar Shikna in the neighbouring state of Haryana, and other sports such as hang-gliding and hot air ballooning in various locations – Delhi Tourism can advise on bookings and arrangements.
