Dubrovnik Nightlife

Despite its city-break allure, Dubrovnik is never going to be large enough to boast the kind of nightlife that draws planeloads of party animals, and things in the Old Town can peter out quite early out of season. That said, there are still numerous options for a lively night out in Dubrovnik.

As for culture, Dubrovnik is far from being a metropolis, so while its cultural scene is relatively rich, events tend to comprise part of a festival, rather than being staged as one-off performances. This means that there are quite prolonged periods with only occasional events taking place. When things do happen, however, they’re generally worth the wait. Information and tickets, if not available at the venues themselves, can usually be obtained from the tourist office.

Bars in Dubrovnik

Irish Pub

Where there’s a city, there’s an Irish bar. In Dubrovnik’s case, there are several. The best of them is arguably the simply titled ‘Irish Pub’ – while not bearing much similarity to any Dublin drinking holes, it’s a long-established spot with a good range of beers and a healthy mix of locals and tourists. There’s often a happy hour in the late afternoon.

Nonenina (Hemingway)

See that inviting place next to the cathedral, right opposite the Rector’s Palace in the Old Town? Nonenina (formerly known and still referred to as Hemingway) attracts the cocktail-sipping set with its wicker lounge chairs and good people-watching potential. An enjoyable place to while away an afternoon or evening in Dubrovnik.

Sky Bar

A new addition to Dubrovnik’s nightlife scene, Sky Bar has already become one of the city’s leading lights with its lounge vibe and well-priced drinks menu. It’s open throughout the day (being a good place to make the most of the free Wi-Fi over a coffee) but it’s at sundown that it really sparks to life, and a 0200 close makes it well frequented.

Clubs in Dubrovnik

Eastwest Beach Club

The fact that past guests here include Rio Ferdinand and Swedish royals probably tells you much of what you need to know about Eastwest Beach Club. If bling’s your thing, or if you like the idea of places to “see and be seen”, you’ll be right at home. The music tends towards the more fashionable edges of dance, but the atmosphere’s more cocktail- than rave-based.

Latino Club Fuego

Dubrovnik’s closest answer to a cheesy disco, the Latino Club Fuego is where to head if you’re looking for decent-sized crowds and a booze-fuelled dance floor. It stays open late by Dubrovnik standards (ie past 0200) and the music varies from Latino and radio hits to modern disco. Open every day in high season and Thursday to Saturday over winter.

Live Music in Dubrovnik

Club Lazareti

An alternative arts-based club in Dubrovnik with a regular roster of dance nights, this venue also hosts a number of live performances. It promotes less commercial genres, as well as providing an outlet for local rock bands to play live. There are three separate performance spaces. This is usually the city’s most likely outlet for forms of avant-garde expression.

Troubadour 'Hard Jazz' Café

A local institution. Live music isn’t overly easy to come by in Dubrovnik, so the Troubadour represents the most likely opportunity. It has live acts most nights, especially during the summer months – most of the music tends to fall under either jazz or blues, but there are occasional exceptions. The bar itself has a pub-like ambiance and some outside tables.

Classical Music in Dubrovnik

Rector’s Palace

The courtyard of Dubrovnik’s Rector’s Palace doubles as a festival venue, particularly during the summer months, its medieval surrounds making it especially popular for classical concerts and the like. Similarly, the Sponza Palace is used frequently for the same kind of festival events.
