Restaurants in Dubrovnik
Being the tourist magnet that it is, Dubrovnik is more than well equipped with restaurants, the majority of them more or less indistinguishable from the next. If you like seafood, grilled meat and pasta, you’ll be a happy diner.
The Dubrovnik restaurants below have been grouped into three different pricing categories:
Expensive (over 250 HRK)
Moderate (100 HRK to 250 HRK)
Cheap (up to 100 HRK)
These Dubrovnik restaurant prices are for a three-course meal for one, including half a bottle of house wine or equivalent, tax and service.
Proto
In business since 1886, Proto once served dinner to Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson, and the venue has made much of the royal connection ever since. It more or less matches the hype though, with the fish and meat dishes as good as you’ll find anywhere in Dubrovnik. Its menu is broadly based on traditional seafood recipes used by local fishermen.
Tovjerna Sesame
Sesame specialises in serving ‘Mediterranean and Dubrovnik cuisine’ in atmospheric surrounds, offering the likes of Dalmatian roast beef and gnocchi with truffles. The restaurant itself is set in a 200-year-old family home and surrounded by citrus trees.
Oliva Pizzeria
Nothing too extravagant about this place, just good quality Italian food at decent prices. Dubrovnik has an abundance of different options if you’re looking for pizza, and this is one of the best of the lot. Specialties include the Gourmand, with mushrooms, peppers and bacon, or the Rocket, with pesto sauce.
Mea Culpa
Managed by the same owners that look after Lokanda Peskarija, Mea Culpa offers an unfussy, inexpensive take on holiday grub, with pizzas and salads the main currency. The restaurant has an outside terrace for up to 60, set in an alley among traditional Dubrovnik houses.
Gil’s Cuisine & Pop Lounge
A spectacular venue with a spectacular menu. Gil’s Cuisine & Pop Lounge offers modern French fusion cuisine and funky decor in an aspirational Old Town setting. Sample menu items include foie gras with gingerbread powder or scampi-stuffed veal fillet with asparagus and morel mushrooms. Closed in winter.
Orhan
Orhan is another of Dubrovnik’s most renowned seafood eateries, with the outdoor terrace enjoying pretty stunning views over the Old Town walls and the Lovrijenac Fortress. Dalmatian specialities dominate, and menus are dependent on the catch of the day. The covered terrace seats up to 90 diners – reserve out here if you can.
Lokanda Peskarija
A favourite with pretty much anyone you speak to. Outside tables overlooking the old harbour make Lokanda Peskarija one of the most popular restaurants in Dubrovnik. In the cooler months it's also a favourite with locals. There’s the choice between candlelit dining room or waterside terrace. Fried squid and mussels come served in pots.
Nautica
Located alongside the entrance to the Old Town, the most expensive restaurant in Dubrovnik offers delicious seafood dishes with spectacular sea views and staff dressed in period costume. Try the fresh oysters or the lobster from the nearby island of Vis, while staring at the jaw-dropping Adriatic Sea and the fortresses of Lovrijenac and Bokar.
Kamenice
Restaurants in Dubrovnik don't come any more cheap and cheerful than this busy little place on Gunduličeva Poljana. The name means 'oyster' and oysters here are very good value, while the seafood risotto comes in generous portions. The frittura (whitebait) is another good option, and – even better news – the house wine is eminently affordable.
