Crufts was founded in 1891 by Charles Cruft who became wealthy from the enterprise. Now it is not run for commercial gain but controlled by the Kennel Club. The event is internationally recognised as the world's most important dog show. Held at the NEC, the UK's largest exhibition venue, Crufts receives around 120,000 visitors and over 22,000 dogs enter each year. Such is its fame that it receives daily coverage on television with the 'best in show' judging and awards broadcast live on the Sunday evening.
