Hotels in Fes
There are a number of different Fès hotels to suit every pocket and taste. One of the best ways to soak up the city’s atmosphere is staying in a riad, a large traditional house based around a central courtyard. Converted into hotels, riads are often beautifully decorated and provide intimate-sized accommodation, personal service and authentic home-cooked food.
The hotels in Fès below have been grouped into three different price categories:
Luxury (1,250 to 2,250 dirhams)
Moderate (850 to 1,250 dirhams)
Cheap (under 850 dirhams)
These rates are based on double occupancy of twin or double room at standard rate, including breakfast for two and taxes.
Riad Maison Bleue
Elegantly restored traditional 19th century town house with 11 rooms, a pretty pool, four interconnecting shaded courtyards set behind high walls. Guests are greeted in a Moorish salon where they are welcomed with a bowl of orange-blossom scented milk and dates stuffed with almonds. Each room is equipped with an ensuite bathroom, airconditioning, telephone, televison, internet access, mini bar and room safe.
Sofitel Fes Palais Jamaï
Luxury five-star accommodation in a former vizier's palace, the principal setting for a Paul Bowles novel, The Spider's House . The old wing is outstanding, but even in the modern rooms, you have fantastic views across the old city, and you are woken by the ethereal sound of its myriad muezzin calls.
Dar Seffarine
Behind high walls and a discrete doorway in the oldest part of the medina is Dar Seffarine, a beautifully renovated 600-year old house which has been restored to its former glory and now offers six rooms.
Hotel Ibis Moussafir
In the Ville Nouvelle, well placed for the station, this modern hotel has 123 air-conditioned compact but clean rooms, with comfortable beds and bathrooms with shower but no bath. Guests have the use of a garden with a swimming pool; there is a restaurant and bar. The historic medina is a short ride away in a petit taxi.
Riad Tizwa
With easy road access, this inviting riad is close to the edge of the medina. The nine bedrooms are scattered up and downstairs, the welcome is superb as is the breakfast (served all day) and there are some great hospitality touches - coffee delivered to your door each morning.
