Hotels in Geneva
Hotels in Geneva have become the world’s most expensive in 2010. The nature of Geneva as a business and diplomatic hub means that polished accommodation options are easily found – most big-name chain hotels are well represented here. That’s not to say that there aren’t cheap hotels in Geneva though, and if you’re keen to steer away from the corporate properties there are some great little finds out there.
The Geneva hotels below have been grouped into three pricing categories:
Luxury (over SFr600)
Moderate (SFr300 to SFr600)
Cheap (under SFr300)
These Geneva hotel prices are the starting prices for a standard double room and include taxes. Breakfast is extra.
Beau-Rivage
The Jacques-Mayer family set up the elegant Beau-Rivage hotel on the banks of Lake Geneva in 1865. Former guests have included Sarah Bernhardt, the Empress Elisabeth of Austria, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor and Catherine Deneuve. Since 2009, the hotel has been a member of The Leading Hotels of the World consortium. Its fine dining restaurant, Le Chat-Botté, is especially renowned.
Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues Geneva
Billed as Geneva’s first hotel, the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues Geneva has been standing on the shores of Lake Geneva since 1834. Modern highlights include a spa and fitness facilities, but the real pull lies in the chance to sample the charm of a bygone era. If you’ve got the cash, this is arguably the finest hotel in Geneva.
Le Richemond
Gigi author Colette enjoyed her own suite at Le Richemond, one of Geneva's most established high-end hotels. Extensively renovated in 2007, the property rewards visitors with an enviable setting on the banks of the Rhône and 98 sumptuously appointed rooms. There are also five flexible meeting spaces. Le Jardin serves fine Italian cuisine. Additional facilities include a spa and limousine service.
Hôtel Edelweiss
Just a short walk from Lake Geneva, Hôtel Edelweiss is a sensible budget option in Geneva. Decorated in the style of a Swiss chalet, the hotel offers 42 rooms and a Swiss-style restaurant, where evening entertainment and folk music are provided for the guests. All rooms are en suite and equipped with telephone and mini-bar. There is also a small business centre and free Wi-Fi access.
Mövenpick Hotel & Casino Geneva
Located in the International Centre Cointrin (ICC) business complex, the Mövenpick Hotel & Casino Geneva is situated just 0.8km (0.5 miles) from the Palexpo Exhibition Centre and 15 minutes' drive from the city centre. Trendy types and the business community enjoy this mini-city, which provides everything from an airline check-in desk and discotheque to a casino, piano bar and business centre. In short, a solid bet in terms of price and location.
Ramada Park Hotel
This modern 4-star Geneva hotel, just a short ride from the airport, offers 308 guest rooms. Other facilities include a sauna, bike hire and fitness room. International cuisine is served at La Récolte, brunch at Le Jardin and snacks at the Marco Polo bar. The hotel has an extensive range of conference and banquet facilities for up to 1,200 people and also offers a free shuttle service to and from the airport.
Hôtel Kipling
A 3-star property with more character than most, Hôtel Kipling takes its design inspiration from India and beyond, with a range of exotic knick-knacks brightening up the public areas. It’s got a central Geneva location too, and with added-value items like free Wi-Fi, it’s a savvy option for those not willing to break the bank. There are 62 rooms and suites.
Hôtel Les Arcades
Hôtel Les Arcades is a small hotel with a reasonable location, and by Geneva’s standards one which doesn’t cost the earth. It actually occupies what was formerly an office building, but if you can get over the slightly odd layout, it offers good value for money. Rooms are small but functional, and there’s no shortage of shops and eateries in the surrounding area. Warning: it can be a little tricky to find.
Hôtel St-Gervais
The hotel’s website boasts that the property sits in one the “most micturesque aeras of Geneva” (sic), and this charming but not especially slick approach is typical of what to expect. No whistles and bells here, but what you get is a plum location and basic but far-from-grotty rooms. There’s the option of choosing a room with shared washroom facilities if you want to keep the costs down further.
