Düsseldorf International Airport has invested in significant expansion of its capacity in recent years, including a new security and passport control area, new baggage handling facilities, the enhancement of retail areas, and new car parking facilities. The construction of a business complex close to the airport site is expected to be completed by 2016.

The A44 autobahn runs east-west past Düsseldorf International Airport. Follow the sign 'Flughafen' at junction 31 to reach the airport. The A44 connects to the A52 north and the A3 north-south.
Public Transport
Public transport rail:
Rail: More than 350 trains a day stop at Düsseldorf International Airport’s railway station, Düsseldorf Flughafen. Deutsche Bahn (tel: 0180 599 6633; www.bahn.de) services include regional, express, intercity and high-speed InterCity Express (ICE) trains that connect the airport to a number of destinations in Germany. The journey time from Düsseldorf central station is around 10 minutes. The automated SkyTrain links the railway station and the terminal building in around six minutes.
Underground: The local S11 S-Bahn underground train runs directly into the airport complex.
Public transport road:
Bus: The bus station is located in front of Arrivals, from which a good selection of VRR (tel: 0180 350 4034; www.vrr.de) regional services operate. Bus 760 runs regularly to Ratingen Ost, bus 721 runs to Tannenhof via Düsseldorf central station, and bus SB51 runs to Kaarst-Rathaus via Düsseldorf-Nordfriedhof. Several other regional services call at a separate bus station near the railway station.
Taxi: Taxis leave from in front of Arrivals. Official operators include Taxi-Düsseldorf (tel: (0211) 33333; www.taxi-duesseldorf.com) and Rhein-Taxi (tel 0211 212121; www.rheintaxi.de). All taxis are cream-coloured. Fares start at around €20 to the city centre.

There are two bureaux de change on the departures level and a further one on the arrivals level. A full-service bank is located in Arrivals. ATMs can be found throughout Düsseldorf International Airport and its railway station.
Communication:
Paid-for wireless internet access is available throughout the terminal building, and there are fixed internet access desks at various locations. Public telephones can be found throughout the terminal and railway station.
Food:
There are more than 40 bars, cafés and restaurants at Düsseldorf International Airport, before and after security.
Shopping:
There are more than 70 shops at Düsseldorf International Airport; these range from gift shops and fashion stores to food shops and duty-free outlets. Shops are open from early morning until late at night, seven days a week.

The Wöllhaf Conference Centre (tel: (0211) 496 230; www.airport-konferenz.de/duesseldorf) is located on level 3 of the terminal. It has 24 conference rooms that can accommodate small groups and conferences of up to 300 delegates. The nearby Sheraton Düsseldorf Airport Hotel (tel: (0211) 41730; www.sheratonduesseldorfairport.com) and Maritim Hotel Düsseldorf (tel: (0211) 520 90; www.maritim.com) also offer numerous meeting and conference rooms. A large multi-purpose meeting and events facility (tel: (0211) 421 71502) is also available at the airport's railway station. There are a number of airline-affiliated business lounges in the departures area, as well as two lounges for paying guests at gates B and C.
Disabled facilities:
Düsseldorf International Airport is fully accessible for disabled passengers. Wheelchairs are available on request. Passengers with disabilities are requested to inform their airline in advance of their requirements. Drivers displaying disability ID can park in the ‘terminal’ and ‘langzeit’ car parks for free; for more information on disabled parking contact airport parking (tel: (0211) 421 6637). The SkyTrain is wheelchair accessible.
Car parking:
There are several car parks available with direct access to the terminals. These are mostly short-term car parks (car parks P1, P2, P3 and P7), while the long-term cark parks (P4 and P5) are further away from the terminals and are connected to the terminal via the SkyTrain (journey time: 2 minutes). Car park P7 has more than 3,000 spaces immediately outside of the terminal building. The first 15 minutes of parking in the underground P1 car park are free. Car rental:
Car hire companies represented at Düsseldorf International Airport include: Avis, Europcar, Hertz, Thrifty and Sixt. Desks are located in the central Arrivals hall. Hire cars should be returned to the car hire centre next to Departures.
