In 2016 the airport’s 20 year so-called master plan was finalised, involving, among many expansion projects, the addition of a sixth runway and the modernisation of existing terminals.
The airport customer service office (tel: +1 404 530 7300) is open from 0815 to 1700 (Monday to Friday). Information desks are located in the public areas of the domestic and international terminals and in the automated people mover stations of each concourse. In addition, multilingual customer service representatives are on hand throughout the airport to provide assistance.
Tourist information is available from the visitor centre in the public area of the domestic terminal.
Interstates 85, 285, 75 and 20 provide direct access to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport from various areas of Georgia and southeast USA.
From Atlanta, take either Interstate 85 (for the domestic terminal) or Interstate 75 (for the international terminal) southbound and follow signs to the relevant terminal. The total drive time from central Atlanta to the airport is approximately 18 minutes.
Transfer between terminals:
The airport’s Plane Train automated people mover transports passengers between terminals and concourses (the journey time to the farthest concourse is five minutes). Another similar system links the terminals with the Car Rental Centre.

Coach:Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is served by Greyhound Flightlink buses (tel: +1 888 287 6359; www.greyhound.com), which depart daily for a number of cities and states from the lower level of the North Terminal.
Shuttle:Shared-ride taxis and door-to-door shuttles are available from numerous operators. The airport’s website has a full list of companies.
Taxi:Taxis can be booked for a set fee at the transportation centre in the domestic terminal and on the arrivals level of the international terminal. The fare into downtown Atlanta is US$30, and the journey time is 20 to 30 minutes.
Public transport rail:
Rail:Rapid train services operated by MARTA (tel: +1 404 848 5000; www.itsmarta.com) leave the airport’s domestic terminal for central Atlanta (journey time: 15 minutes; fare: US$2.50). From the central Peachtree Street Station, connections to other parts of the city and further afield are available via Amtrak services (tel: +1 800 872 7245; www.amtrak.com).

ATMs can be found throughout the terminals and concourses, and there is a bank branch in the atrium area of the domestic terminal. Bureaux de change kiosks are located in the domestic and international terminals, and within concourse E.
Free Wi-Fi internet access is now available throughout Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. A post office is located in the atrium area of the domestic terminal.
A good choice of restaurants, bars and fast-food outlets offer a wide variety of international cuisine in both terminals and within the concourses. These include a steakhouse in the domestic terminal’s atrium and a seafood bar in the international terminal.
Numerous gift and souvenir shops, designer outlets and newsagents are located in the terminals and concourses. Duty-free shopping is available for international passengers.
Lockers are available at Wrap-A-Bag in the southwest area of the atrium in the domestic terminal – lockers beyond the security checkpoints are out of service until further notice. Lost property is handled by the Atlanta Airline Terminal Corporation (tel: +1 404 530 2100).
Other facilities at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport include a chapel, medical centre and AED units (defibrillators).
Conference and business:
Laptop Lane centres offer meeting rooms and business facilities, including telephone, fax, printing, photocopying and workstations. There are numerous airline lounges for business-class passengers. A concierge service is available in the baggage reclaim area, in the north part of the domestic terminal. Meeting rooms are available at the on-site Renaissance Concourse Atlanta Airport Hotel (tel: +1 404 209 9999; www.marriott.com) and other hotels in the vicinity.
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is fully equipped with facilities for disabled passengers, including TDD phones, lifts, specially equipped toilets and ramps. Passengers who require wheelchairs and special assistance should inform their airline before travelling.
There are covered short-term car parks with direct access to the terminals, as well as hourly parking areas in front of each terminal for pick-up and drop-off. A free ‘cell phone’ waiting area is also available for ‘meeters and greeters’. Economy and long-term car parks are situated next to the covered parking areas – these are linked by a courtesy shuttle. International car rental companies: Advantage, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, EZ, Hertz, National, Payless, Sixt and Thrifty are among those represented at the airport’s Rental Car Centre, along with local operators. The Rental Car Centre is linked to the terminals via the ATL SkyTrain.
