Restaurants in The Hague
The restaurants in The Hague listed below have been grouped into three pricing categories:
Expensive (over €45)
Moderate (€25 to €45)
Cheap (up to €25)
These prices are for a three-course meal for one (or equivalent) without drinks.
At Sea
A very smart new restaurant on Scheveningen, At Sea has already won awards for its high quality food and service. As the name suggests, fish is high on the agenda, but there is a good selection of other choices, along with an excellent wine list.
Zebedeüs
Occupying an outbuilding on the side of the (deconsecrated) landmark Grote Kerk, this charming small restaurant serves an excellent combination of Dutch, international and oriental-inspired dishes, either in its contemporary interior or on the leafy terrace.
Les Ombrelles
This cosy little restaurant in an attractive location just off Denneweg, and surrounded by antique shops and bars, specialises in European-style fish dishes with occasional exotic plates and meat dishes too. In summer, there is also an outdoor dining area.
It Rains Fishes
Very trendy gourmet fish and seafood restaurant in the royal court area, with dishes from all over the world. It specialises in Oriental and Thai meals, and utilising a wide range of fish and shellfish. Décor is elegant, and the quality high – it's definitely a place for a treat.
Garoeda
The Netherlands has a long tradition of Indonesian restaurants due to its colonial links, and this is a very good example. Dine in tropical colonial surroundings in the town's oldest Indonesian restaurant, which has been serving locals, expats and visitors with its famous rijsttafels (rice table serving buffet meals) since 1949.
Café Brasserie Dudok
Next door to the tourist office, this relaxed modern take on the traditional Grand Café, complete with garden terrace, is perfect for lunch or afternoon tea; famous throughout the city for patisseries, particularly their delicious Dutch apple pie.
Grand Restaurant le Connaisseur
Despite its name, it's possible to enjoy a three-course fixed menu meal here in the heart of the city for a very reasonable price. It offers a wide range of cooking styles, and while it closes relatively early in the evening, it's a great venue for a meal before hitting the nightlife.
Eeuwige Jachtvelden
Traditional 'eetcafés' are a Dutch institution, and offer wholesome food at a very good price, often in suitably historic/rustic surroundings. This example is right in the middle of the city, and is a very good introduction to the style. A wide-ranging menu caters for just about every taste.
Calla's
Michelin-starred Calla's is definitely not form the faint of wallet, but if it's culinary perfection, or as near as possible to it, that you are seeking, be prepared to splash out on some of the best food The Hague has to offer. The interior of the restaurant is pretty spectacular too.
