A number of stages keep toes tapping during the day featuring bands playing country, zydeco, jazz, pop and Latin music. In addition there is a Freedom Market, beer garden and display of military vehicles. But the event that everybody has come for is when the sky over Houston explodes with fireworks.

The “Silk Road”, refers to the world’s oldest trade route, which linked a network of cities spanning Asia, Europe and Africa. To celebrate this spirit of cultural transmission, the eponymously named "Silk Road Festival" once again brings together the countries that made up this historic region for a shopping, eating and entertainment extravaganza. Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan will all be featured in the event where visitors can become like ancient traders as they peruse booths of handmade jewellery, scarves and carpets as well as traditional stone-carving, calligraphy and filigree. Visitors will also be entertained by actors and dancers in authentic costumes and cooks sharing their traditional dishes. The festival is set to be one of the largest in Houston will over one hundred thousand attendees expected.
