Ever since two mountaineers first conquered the “Giant of the Alps” over two centuries ago, Club Med’s Haute-Savoie resort in the Chamski ski domain has preserved its unique atmosphere. The 272-room resort consists of three different properties, all conveniently located within five minutes walk of the town centre.

Within Chamonix, there are more than 110km (63 miles) of trails spread across five peaks. To get a real grasp of the magnitude of this resort, take the Aiguille du Midi gondola to the 3,842m (12,605ft) summit. More experienced skiers will be addicted to the thrilling runs available in Le Brevent, Grands Montets, and Le Balme. For a greater challenge, advanced skiers should head to Vallee Blanche where you can plunge down the Argentiere Glacier and experience the thrill of untouched powder and incomparable panoramic views.

For beginners and children, gentler slopes and snow parks dominate the lower valley runs.

If you want to take a break from the slopes, there is a vast range of winter sports. From the upper elevations, sample heli-skiing, paragliding, ice climbing, and telemarking. Also available are snowshoeing, dog sledding, and speed riding – a form of hang gliding on skis.

Although Chamonix is small, when the trails close, the night life awakens. The cosy centre has plenty of bars, restaurants and pubs, including the Chambre Neuf, a popular watering hole with live music and a buzzing atmosphere.
