Travel to Iraq
Flying to Iraq
Iraqi Airways (www.iraqiairways.co.uk) fly from London Gatwick to Baghdad. Iraqui Airways also operates flights between Baghdad and all regional cities.
There are now regular scheduled direct flights on an increasing number of international and regional airlines into Baghdad, Basra, Irbil and Sulemaniyah from Dubai, Istanbul, Amman, Vienna, Stockholm and Damascus.
The German carrier Lufthansa (www.lufthansa.com) flies to Erbil from Frankfurt and Munich.
From London to Baghdad is 5 hours.
There is no departure tax.
Travel by rail
A railway exists between Baghdad and Basra but it is currently not working and security for foreigners may be an issue when service resumes; be guided by your embassy advice. The English version of the rail website can be found at www.motrans.gov.iq. A commuter railway is also being introduced in the Baghdad area sometime in the near future according to municipal plans.
At present, all ports in Iraq are closed.
