Hotels in Kuala Lumpur
Hotels in Kuala Lumpur offer something for every budget – and there is no shortage of options now that hotel openings have caught up with all the other developments going on in the city. Accommodation in Malaysia really is good value for the visiting Westerner. Most of the top-end hotels are, naturally, gathered around KLCC business district.
The hotels below have been classed into three different pricing categories:
Luxury (over RM600)
Moderate (RM350 to RM600)
Cheap (up to RM350)
These prices are the starting prices for a standard double room per night and include sales tax but not service charge. Breakfast is not included, unless otherwise specified. A sales tax of 5% and a service charge at 10% are added to the bill in most hotels in Kuala Lumpur. Additional tips are not necessary, although it is perfectly acceptable to tip the porter at more expensive hotels.
Doubletree by Hilton
This brand new luxury hotel in Kuala Lumpur close to KLCC opened in mid 2010, linked by covered walkway to Ampang Park LRT station, and close to the Bukit Bintang shopping district. Dining features six distinctive Malaysian ethnic styles, there are an outdoor swimming pool, and extensive meeting facilities.
Hotel Istana
This modern glass and steel construction is handily located in the heart of the city's business district known as the Golden Triangle. Recent renovations have seen it reclaim its place as one of the more glamorous hotels in Kuala Lumpur. All of the hotel's 439 rooms and 77 suites are elegant and comfortable, offering guests private safes and spacious bathrooms with deep bathtubs.
Mandarin Oriental
This modern, luxury hotel is situated next to the Petronas Towers and offers accommodation in 643 deluxe rooms, including 41 suites and 51 exclusive apartments. Many of the rooms have views over the expanse of Kuala Lumpur City Centre Park. In-room features include high-speed Wi-Fi access, modem data ports, a digital phone system with fax and deluxe bathrooms. A nice touch is the 300 original works of art displayed in public and guest rooms.
Caracosa Seri Negara Hotel
This historic, colonial hotel is a 'Small Luxury Hotel of the World' and provides accommodation in 13 exclusive suites. It nestles in attractive landscaped gardens, just a 10-minute drive from the city centre. Famous former guests include the Queen and Prince Philip, who stayed here in 1989 and again in 1998. The best rooms have their own private terraces.
MiCasa All Suite Hotels
An all-suite KL hotel, MiCasa boasts 242 one, two and three-bedroom suites at surprisingly low rates nightly rates. It's situated in the heart of the diplomatic quarter, about 2km (1.2 miles) from KLCC, adjacent to Putra station. It offers two restaurants serving European-style and Asian menus, along with streetside café.
Traders Hotel
A mid price 570 room hotel in Kuala Lumpur adjoining the KLCC Convention Centre, Traders is a great option for those travelling on a less generous budget. It's comfortable and service is very friendly and efficient. A feature is the rooftop Sky Bar, with its swimming pool and great night views of the Twin Towers. A choice of restaurants offers Asian and Western food.
Bintang Warisan
This 10-storey, colonial-style hotel in KL is handily located for the shopping and entertainment facilities of Jalan Bukit Bintang. All of the 97 clean and simply furnished rooms are air conditioned with en-suite bathroom, TV and telephone. Additional guest services include safety deposit boxes, postal service, car hire, laundry and an on-call doctor.
Cititel Express
Modelled loosely on the European budget hotel concept, this recently opened property in the heart of 'Little India' is nevertheless reasonably close to KLCC and the important city attractions. It's also served by the monorail, making transport easy. A terrace restaurant offers local and Western-style food. One of the best cheap hotels in Kuala Lumpur.
Radius International
Located within easy walking distance of the city's business and shopping districts, the Radius International (formerly the Park Inn) offers accommodation in 431 neutrally decorated and comfortable air-conditioned rooms, including 11 suites. In-room features include TV, in-house films, telephone, mini-bars and en-suite bathrooms. The hotel also offers a travel service, outdoor swimming pool, health club, bureau de change, shopping arcade and a business centre.
