Kuwait City Nightlife
Kuwait is not a city associated with 'nightlife' in the Western sense of the word. Alcohol is forbidden so there are no bars or nightclubs. Instead, people enjoy their evenings promenading the Corniche, shopping in the souks and malls, and dining, relaxing and chatting in the many restaurants and open-air coffee shops. Occasional live music is hosted in the major hotels, and Kuwaitis enjoy film, theatre and Arabic poetry recitals.
Arabic theatre has been popular since its introduction to Kuwait City in 1922. The Kuwait Players began in 1952 and perform in English, staging about 10 ambitious productions per year from pantomime to Shakespeare. For performance times and venues, check 'What's On' listings in the local papers.
