Hotels in Las Vegas
Las Vegas hotels have become a destination in their own right. Las Vegas hotel rates are increasingly competitive, though prices vary, with higher rates being tied to Las Vegas' milder spring and autumn seasons, holidays and special events. Avoid these periods to find cheap hotels in Las Vegas. The hotel sales tax in Las Vegas is 12%.
The Las Vegas hotels below have been classed into three different pricing categories:
Luxury (over $150)
Moderate ($100 to $150)
Cheap (under $100)
The prices quoted above are the starting prices for a standard double room and include taxes unless otherwise specified.
Bellagio
A true Vegas icon, the Bellagio hotel and casino is designed with beauty in mind. The hotel is located on the Strip but separated from it by a driveway and a lake, featuring more than 1,000 water fountains, as well as botanical gardens and a fine arts gallery. Bellagio's 3,933 guest rooms and suites are equally impressive, and priced depending on how good a view you have of the fountains.
Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas
This 47-storey property is one of the flagship hotels of the new $8.5billion CityCentre development. With 392 rooms and suites, it’s a smaller scale affair than the usual Vegas behemoths, but quality trumps quantity and there’s an air of exclusivity and Zen-like calm. The 27th floor Sky Lobby is the perfect retreat from the clamour of the casinos and also has panoramic views across the city.
Wynn Las Vegas
The only casino resort in the world to have both a Mobil 5-star and AAA 5-diamond rating, Steve Wynn's signature hotel offers unparalleled luxury and sophistication, centred on a waterfall-fed tropical garden and bordering the city's most exclusive golf courses. Rooms are decked out with every conceivable amenity including Egyptian linens, flatscreen LCD TVs, granite wet bars, floating whirlpool tubs and artwork replicas from the Wynn Collection of masters.
Green Valley Ranch Resort
Located in Henderson, a short drive outside of Las Vegas, Green Valley Ranch Resort puts the focus on pampering and provides a break from the pace of The Strip. The resort is a rambling Mediterranean hacienda and houses eight restaurants, a cinema and a European-inspired intimate casino. The main buildings open onto the pool area with a small sand beach and private lounging beds in a more modern European setting.
The Palms Hotel and Casino
The Palms is one of the newer hotel/casino resorts in Las Vegas and caters to the young, moneyed celebrity and wannabe crowd. Chicago's famous Nine and Ghostbar as well as Paris's Buddha Bar have franchises here, and are the gathering spots for the rich and beautiful. Guest rooms feature the usual amenities as well as the not so usual, including private outdoor Jacuzzis in the Playboy tower.
Bally's Las Vegas
It may not have an Eifell Tower outside it or any of those glitzy Las Vegas touches, but Bally's Las Vegas is one of the best cheap hotels in Las Vegas. It has 2,800 nicely appointed rooms and it's on the monorail stop, so transport connections are not a problem. Marble bathrooms and a choice of 13 restaurants add to the package, with the Sterling Sunday Brunch being something of a local institution. Not flashy, but reassuringly good quality.
El Cortez Hotel
One of the more modest casinos in Las Vegas, El Cortez' roots actually go back to the era of 'Bugsy' Siegel, one of the city's founders. These days, this Las Vegas hotel advertises a modest selection of rooms with furnishings that are generally sparse but comfortable. The friendly atmosphere and central location to downtown attractions have long been one of the draws, which is now outmatched by the grandiose casinos of the Strip.
Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino
The aquarium and high ceilings of the lobby belie the great value of this 3,300 room property that is more resort than casino. A monorail connects the hotel to some of the hottest spots on the Strip and rooms on the higher floors boast some of the best views in town. The restaurants here are particularly innovative, and there are four swimming pools to guarantee you won't feel crowded out. One of the best cheap hotels in Las Vegas.
MGM Grand Hotel and Casino
Over 5,000 rooms make the MGM Grand one of the big players in terms of volume, but they've done their best to retain some character. Black and white movie photos adorn the guest rooms, and the Art Deco furniture also helps. Joel Robuchon, Wolfgang Puck and Emiril lend their names to the top class dining rooms. The casino is gigantic, with Cirque du Soleil providing the entertainment.
