Hotels in Ljubljana
Since becoming independent in 1991, the local hotel scene has blossomed with a wide choice of hotels for every taste and budget available today.
The Ljubljana hotels below have been grouped into three pricing categories:
Luxury (over €150)
Moderate (€75 to €150)
Cheap (up to €75)
These Ljubljana hotel prices are the starting prices for a standard double room and include taxes and breakfast unless otherwise specified.
Grand Hotel Union Executive
Housed in a stunning art nouveau building dating from 1905, this is the most attractive hotel in Ljubljana and the choice of many visiting celebrities and various movers and shakers. Rooms are quietly luxurious with all mod cons including satellite TV and wireless internet access. The art nouveau building itself is a gem with many rooms boasting views of more ornate art nouveau architecture and on towards the city’s castle. It boasts an excellent restaurant and café too as well as use of a swimming pool in a neighbouring hotel.
Lev
Lev is Ljubljana's only 5-star hotel, an oasis firmly geared towards business people, though there are often good deals at weekends to attract leisure travellers as well. The conference centre at this towering hotel, with top views of Ljubljana, is one of the city's most attractive conference and incentive venues. Many guest rooms boast similarly impressive views too. Tivoli Park is just across the street, while the city centre and Old Town are just a short stroll away.
Slon Best Western Premier
The Slon has one of the best locations in Ljubljana on Slovenska with shops to one side and the city's historic attractions rambling away on the other, as well as a range of eating and drinking venues. Recently refurbished, it is right up there with the best hotels in Ljubljana. The suites have balconies with views back towards Tivoli Park, while there is also a café and a cake shop.
Antiq Hotel
This old-world retreat reclines across a couple of old townhouses in one of the prettiest parts of Ljubljana’s Old Town. Each individual room is woven around the original buildings with some boasting views out over the cobbled streets. Their website has room plans, including one of the split-level family apartment that is the pick of the bunch. The only thing lacking is a restaurant.
City Hotel
This centrally located 3-star hotel was transformed by a massive renovation programme a few years ago that added extra rooms, restaurants and conference facilities. Neat features include free bikes and free internet access, while the staff are also happy to book local tours. Book early for a coveted room with a castle view. The on-site restaurant offers good-value lunches and dinners as well as big breakfast spreads.
Hotel Park
What used to be a very run-down hotel has now reinvented itself to offer affordable accommodation just on the edge of the city centre. The tower block design might not win any awards, but for clean, functional rooms with a touch of style, it works well. Free Wi-Fi in the 200 bedrooms and lobby is handy. Rooms are not large, but for those looking for more space, there are family rooms and junior suites.
Celica Hostel
This funky award-winning hostel housed in an old military prison offers 92 beds in two-, three-, four-, five-, seven- and 14-person dorms, and is one of the most characterful places to stay in Ljubljana. The funky ‘cells' have been reinvented by domestic and international artists making this a fascinating accommodation and far more than just a hostel.
Hotel Emonec
The location could not be any better as this budget hotel in Ljubljana is tucked just off the city’s lifeblood Prešeren Square bang in the city centre. The rooms are basic, but perfectly clean and comfortable. Little extras include bike hire, notebook hire, free Wi-Fi access and the slightly surreal massage chair, the latter available for 15-minute massages.
Slamic
Much more than the ‘bed and breakfast’ it markets itself as, this cosy, homely abode is housed above one of the city’s most famous cafés. Guests can enjoy excellent breakfasts in the café, which is part of the same business. Rooms are calm and comfortable with creams and browns and a tasteful ambience. A useful extra is free on-site parking. The single suite is available for those needing more space. A good option for those looking for a conveniently located, cheap hotel in Ljubljana.
