Macau - Accommodation
The Macau hotels below have been grouped into three pricing categories:
Luxury (over HKD2,500)
Moderate (HKD750 to HKD2,500)
Cheap (up to HKD750)
These Macau hotel prices are for a double room per night and include all taxes and breakfast, unless otherwise indicated. Prices are listed in Hong Kong dollars (rather than Macau patacas), as that is how they are usually quoted.
Pousada de São Tiago
Built into the ruins of a 17th-century fort, this traditional Portuguese pousada with a dozen suites is the most romantic place to stay in town. It commands a splendid view of the Inner Harbour, and the interior décor, with its flagstones, wooden rafters and blue tiles, is a delight.
Westin Resort Macau
Set amid leafy gardens and overlooking a sandy beach, this laid-back retreat on Coloane Island has long been favoured by Hong Kong's movie set and celebrity visitors seeking some serious solitude. Each room has a sea or beach view and overlooks the landscaped swimming pool and gardens. There's an excellent spa and an adjoining golf course.
Grand Emperor Hotel
This crown-themed 288-room hotel welcomes you to ‘New' Macau, with a gold chariot at the entrance, doormen dressed as Buckingham Palace guards and myriad chandeliers and mirrors. The rooms are more subtly decorated, with wall-mounted plasma screen TVs and large bathrooms with walk-in rainforest shower. Facilities include a business centre, fitness centre and five floors of gaming rooms and slot machines.
Grand Lapa Macau
At the eastern end of Avenida da Amizade, this luxury hotel stands back from the Sands casino and across from Fisherman's Wharf. Although it occasionally shows its age, it offers comfortable, well-appointed rooms, excellent Italian and Thai restaurants, an excellent spa complex with garden surroundings and superlative service.
Hotel Royal Macau
This 380-room Macau hotel may be a little removed from the action but it's all the more attractive for that reason. It's just up the hill from the wonderful Clube Militar de Macau (see Restaurants) and offers some very good value weekday packages.
Ole London Hotel
This very pink, six-storey block with 60 rooms near the Inner Harbour has been extensively renovated and boasts smart and spotless (if small) rooms. Given its location and rates, the Ole London Hotel offers one of the best deals in town.
San Va Hotel
This cheap and cheerful traditional-style guesthouse is well located in the heart of downtown Macau on the historic Happiness Street. The 39 rooms are simple but clean and comfortable, and some of the doubles and twins have en-suite shower and bathroom.
