Money & duty free for Macau
Pataca (MOP; symbol MOP$) = 100 avos. Notes are in denominations of MOP$1,000, 500, 100, 50, 20 and 10. Coins are in denominations of MOP$10, 5, 2 and 1, and 50, 20 and 10 avos. Hong Kong Dollars are widely accepted.
Note: The Pataca is loosely pegged to the Hong Kong Dollar.
MasterCard and Visa are accepted. Numerous ATMs are available for cash withdrawal by credit card and China UnionPay debit cards.

These may be exchanged at banks, bureaux de change and at many hotels. To avoid additional exchange rate charges, travellers are advised to take traveller's cheques in US Dollars, Pounds Sterling or Euros.

There are no restrictions on the import or export of local or foreign currency.
Foreign currency can be exchanged at hotels, banks and licensed bureaux de change. There are 24-hour exchange counters at Macau International Airport (Taipa Island), and the Lisboa Hotel (Macau).
The following goods may be imported into Macau without incurring customs duty:
• 200 cigarettes, 50 cigars, 100 cigarillos or 250g of tobacco products.
• 1L of wine and 1L of spirits (each not exceeding 30% volume).
Restricted imports: Fish, shellfish, meat and all plants require an import permit.
Note: There are no export duties, but as travel is almost invariably via Hong Kong, the relevant Hong Kong import/export regulations must be observed.
Firearms, ammunition, gunpowder and explosives, narcotics, drugs, chemicals and pharmaceutical products, dangerous goods, radioactive substances/irradiating apparatus, endangered species of animals and plants, and pesticides.
