Penang International Airport is located 16km (10 miles) south of Penang's capital city Georgetown and 6km (4 miles) north of Bayan Baru.

There are proposals to create a dedicated terminal for low-cost carriers, but details are not yet finalised. Otherwise, expansion work is ongoing, with the aim of increasing capacity to 5 million passengers per year.

Driving between Penang International Airport and Georgetown is easy. It takes 20 minutes on the Bayan Lepas Highway, and it is just a matter of following the signs.
Public Transport
Bus: There are bus services from Penang International Airport to Georgetown. These are quite frequent, and the journey takes around 45 minutes. The fare is less than RM2.
Taxi: The taxi service from Penang International Airport is cheap and reliable. A voucher system with fixed prices for specific destinations is used. Passengers need to buy a voucher at the taxi counter in the terminal building and then present the voucher at the taxi rank outside where they will be allotted a taxi. The trip to Georgetown takes about 30 minutes and costs around RM60.
Terminal facilities
A bank, ATMs and a foreign exchange service are available.
Postal services are offered in one of the shops in the terminal building. Wi-Fi internet access is available.
Restaurants, offering both local and international food, bars and cafés are located in the terminal building.
There are a number of duty-free shops at Penang International Airport, as well as a gift shop, pharmacy and several newsagents.
For lost luggage items, contact the information desk on the ground floor. There are no luggage lockers at Penang International Airport.
A first aid service is available in the terminal building.
Airport facilities
A VIP lounge and a business centre with a fax machine, printer and telephones are located in the terminal building. The closest conference and meeting facilities are available at the Hotel Equatorial (Tel: (04) 632 7000; www.equatorial.com/pen).
Accessibility is good at Penang International Airport. There are toilets for wheelchair users, lifts up to the departure area on the first floor, and reserved parking spaces in the car parks.
Both long- and short-term parking is available at Penang International Airport, with more than 800 parking spaces.
