Biennial festival celebrating the city, its popular culture, music and the arts. This year, everyone from Nenah Cherry to Goldfrapp willl perform, while Kenneth Branagh will direct Macbeth and there will be nightly DJs in the Festival Pavilion.

Usually lasting for a week over the August Bank Holiday weekend, Manchester Pride is an annual festival that celebrates lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender life. Centred around the city's thriving Gay Village, the party includes a carnival parade as well as live music, DJs, theatre and comedy, making it an event truly celebrating gay and lesbian influences in popular culture.

Showcasing unique handmade jewellery that has been custom made by some of the best young designers in the UK and beyond, the Dazzle Manchester Jewellery Exhibition is a fantastic place to buy or simply browse the incredible works on display. The exhibition supports young and freshly graduated jewellery makers so guarantees innovative and exciting work - much of which will have previously been unseen outside of the artists' workshops. The first exhibition was held in London in 1981 and has since expanded with several annual exhibitions taking place around the UK including this one in Manchester. Prices begin at just a few pounds but rise to thousands.

Five games will be played within Greater Manchester including a quarter final at the DW Stadium, Wigan and the World Cup Final which is to be played at Old Trafford football stadium on 30 November. A total of 28 games will take place over a five week period that will see 14 nations competing for the title of world champions.

Manchester Fashion Week (MCRFW) will this year take place at The National Football Museum and will see 30 fashion shows take place over five days showcasing collections from graduates to high-end designers.
