Marseille has a mild coastal climate, boasting hot and sunny weather for a good proportion of the year (the city gets more than 3,000 hours of sunshine annually). The mistral (a strong north-westerly wind which generally brings clear skies and dry air) regularly blows here, especially in the autumn, which makes the coastline popular for nautical activities.
