Things to do in Nagoya
Just one hour south of Nagoya is the Shinmaiko Marine Park, which boasts the 400m-long (1,312ft) “Blue Sun” man-made beach. Further south, on the Chita Peninsula, is Chidorigahama Beach. At the tip of the peninsula is the small island of Himakajima, with two white sandy beaches and a popular spot for sunset viewers.
It is possible to use Nagoya as a base for day hikes into the surrounding countryside. Explore the trails running from the post towns of the ancient Tokaido highway, which linked east and west Japan, to the picturesque mountain roads of Buddhist pilgrims, which take in some important historical and natural sites.
