Nashville history

Nashville became the capital of Tennessee in 1843. It grew steadily as a city until the 1920s, when music came to town in the shape of the Grand Ole Opry. By the 1940s, the Opry had moved downtown and recording labels were flocking to the city and soon after, the Country Music Association was founded, ensuring the city’s future success. The Opry moved to the Gaylord complex in 1974, and as country music went global, the city’s stock rose even further and it became the iconic destination it is today. In 2010, flooding hit the city, but reparations were swift and the city quickly re-opened for business.
