Killer typhoon to hit Vietnam

(26 September 2005)

More than 100,000 people have left the Vietnamese coast in preparation for Typhoon Damrey, which has already destroyed parts of the China's island province of Hainan.
Damrey is expected to make landfall in Vietnam early on Tuesday morning.
The typhoon made landfall on Sunday in Wanning in Hainan, resulting in two deaths and causing damage to buildings, infrastructure and crops.
Damrey’s winds are comparable to those of Hurricane Rita in the United States.
While still a tropical storm last week, Damrey triggered rains that killed at least 18 people in the Philippines.
