Egyptian Resort Left Reeling From Blasts
(25 July 2005)Many British holidaymakers in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheik have opted to return home early following the terrible bombings that killed at least 88 people and injured hundreds more. At least one Briton is known to be amongst the dead and 10 more are still reported as missing. The bombs, which are thought to have been detonated by suicide bombers, have come at the start of the country's peak tourist season. The Foreign Office (FCO) has set up a hotline (O207 088 0000) for anyone concerned about friends or relatives caught up in the blasts. The FCO is not currently advising against travel to Egypt but has classed the risk or terrorism in the country as ‘high’. Tour operators are offering customers with pre-booked trips to Sharm a full refund or an alternative holiday for anyone that wants to change their plans.
