Unexploded WWII mine found in port of Calais

The French Navy discovered a WWII German mine containing 700kg (1,543lbs) of explosive in the approaches to the port of Calais, France. A shipping alert to avoid the area has been issued and the mine will be destroyed in a controlled explosion on Tuesday 27 March.

During the operation, which is expected to last from approximately 0800 to 1130, the port of Calais will be closed. Delays to cross channel traffic will occur. Travellers are advised to consult their travel operator.
