End to tourism for the Galapagos?
(29 June 2007)Officials are considering preventing tourists from visiting the Galapagos Islands in the future to protect its environment.
This week, the International Galapagos Tour Operators Association (IGTOA) agreed with the findings of the United Nations that the islands are under threat.
The UN's World Heritage Committee have just added the Galapagos Islands to the list of World Heritage Sites in Danger. They say the islands are threatened by tourism, invasive species and migration, causing unprecedented pressure.
