A380 leaves Heathrow

(19 March 2008)

The Airbus A380 super-jumbo has completed its first return commercial flight in and out of Europe.

The aircraft arrived in Heathrow yesterday and has taken off for its return leg, back to Singapore.

Singapore Airlines is the first airline to operate commercial services with the double-decker plane. British Airways has ordered 12 A380s, due to be delivered from 2012. Virgin Atlantic has ordered six, arriving from 2013.

The inaugural flight carried 470 passengers, with each given a certificate to commemorate the historic first flight to the UK.
