Older tourists 'causing havoc'
(20 March 2008)The UK Foreign Office has said that British holidaymakers over the age of 55 are causing problems normally associated with younger visitors.
Older tourists are reportedly endangering their health by drinking too much alcohol and trying extreme sports, such as bungee jumping.
The Foreign Office has also said that excessive drinking has led to abusive behaviour from over-55s. Drownings have also occurred as a result of over-eating and over-drinking whilst on holiday.
Recent surveys have shown that 20% of holidaymakers over 55 try activities they would not consider doing at home. Almost two in three said they did not take out travel insurance on their last trip abroad. More than half admitted drinking more alcohol when abroad.
