(01 May 2008)

Nine people have died after a tourist bus crashed and caught fire in Egypt.

A further 28 passengers were injured after the bus overturned on a sharp bend 70km (40 miles) south of the city of Suez in the country's Sinai peninsula.

The bus was travelling from the Sharm el-Sheikh resort to Cairo.

The cause of the accident is unknown. It is thought that the bus may have hit a concrete barrier after overturning. It has also been suggested that a tyre blew.

The casualties are said to have suffered severe burns.
