World's first sand hotel opens in England
(24 July 2008)The world's first sand hotel has opened in Dorset with beds costing as little as £10 a night.
The 1,000 tonne giant sandcastle took four sculptors a week to build, and contains one double room and one twin room, each with an open roof for gazing at the stars.
However, the hotel has no toilet facilities and creator Mark Anderson warned potential customers that 'the sand gets everywhere, especially between the toes'.
The hotel was commissioned by hotel company laterooms.com to celebrate the resurgence in popularity of British seaside holidays.
Interested holiday-makers need to be quick though – the hotel is only available until the rain washes it away.
