Greece to target drunken Britons

(11 August 2008)

Out-of-control British tourists could face jail if their behaviour doesn't improve after Greek police launched a crackdown on drunken behaviour.

Holidaymakers in popular resorts like Malia, Zakynthos and Crete are being warned they will be arrested on the spot if their drinking looks like it could get them in trouble.

The warning comes after several alcohol related incidents on the Greek islands which have angered residents.

Four men from Northern Ireland were charged with gang-raping an English tourist on Cavos and filming it on their phones.

Two British women forced a plane to make an emergency landing in Frankfurt after drunkenly attempting to open the door, after taking off from Kos.

And last month, 15 English tourists were charged with lewd behaviour after an alcohol-fuelled outdoor oral sex contest.
