London City airport given permission to expand

(09 October 2008)

London City is the latest airport to be given permission to expand its number of flights.

The major expansion by 2010 will see flights rise from 80,000 per year to 120,000.

The airport will be able to handle 3.9 million passengers a year by 2010.

The growth "recognises the airport's importance in the community, its contribution to the local economy and the increased number of jobs that will become available to local residents as a result", said a spokeswoman for London City.
