Tourism hit by credit crunch, says United Nations

(11 November 2008)

Long distance travel has been hit by the economic downturn, as job insecurity and higher air fares have deterred people from spending on expensive holidays, UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) announced in London on Monday.

Tourists are likely to travel to closer destinations, shorten the length of their trips and spend less money while abroad.

Worse is set to come next year, it predicted.
