UK holiday bookings soar

(08 January 2009)

The UK is set to be the destination of choice in the first half of 2009 for British holidaymakers.

Online bookings have seen a massive growth with tourists seeking out the best deals. On Sunday 4 January, cottages4you, which provides bookings for over 10,000 cottages throughout Britain, took its highest ever number of bookings in one day as Brits battled against the January blues. The holiday cottage provider has seen a 30% rise on Easter bookings and 5% increase on the February half term period compared with last year.

Geoff Cowley, managing director at cottages4you, said: “The demand for UK holidays has already been exceptionally high for this year, proving the predictions that people are looking closer to home in light of the uncertain economic climate and escalating costs of foreign holidays.”
