Snow shuts Marseille Airport

(08 January 2009)

Heavy snow has grounded planes at Marseille Provence Airport.

Airport officials have said the airport will remain closed well into Thursday.

French weather services said between 20 and 40cm (around a foot) of snow fell on the Bouches-du-Rhone region, closing roads, disrupting public transport services and leaving 10,000 homes without electricity.
