Mexico travel is back on the map

(18 May 2009)

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) no longer advises against all but non-essential travel to Mexico "following a decline in the number of reported new swine influenza cases in Mexico since its peak on 26 April 2009".

Thomson and First Choice Holidays have already announced they will resume their flights to Mexico "in the very near future", although they have not yet confirmed a date. Travel companies are awaiting confirmation of when hotels will be reopening, as many closed due to a lack of guests.

Other UK tour operators are today expected to revise their policies on travel to Mexico.

"Mexico is ready to welcome back all of its visitors and offer them the hospitality and services that have always distinguished us," said Rodolfo Elizondo, Mexico's Minister of Tourism.
