Best job in the witching world
(09 July 2009)A Somerset tourist attraction has a vacancy for an "ambitious" witch, with a £50,000 annual salary.
Wookey Hole Caves, near Wells, will select one lucky hag to teach visitors about magic and witchcraft.
The successful applicant must have a convincing cackle and not be allergic to cats, stipulates the official job description.
"Wookey Hole wants the appointee to go about her everyday business as a hag, so that people passing through the caves can get a sense of what the place was like in the Dark Ages," said Wookey Hole Caves spokesman Daniel Medley.
"The job is straightforward: live in the cave, be a witch, and do the things witches do."
Auditions will be held on 28 July and are open to "all male, female and trans-gender witches".
The job ad states: "Ambitious witches, looking for a key career move, should turn up dressed for work and bring any essential witch accoutrements."
It's unclear whether applicants will be required to actually demonstrate their spell-casting abilities but "a range of potion ingredients will be available".
