Thomson's £600 refund to ranting blogger

(16 September 2009)

Thomson refunded a British holidaymaker £600 after a complaint he posted about the travel agent on his blog topped Google search rankings.

The offer from Thomson came after the online rant by Andrew Sharman, 23, came top of the list on Google when searching for ‘Thomson Tunisia trip'.

"I got nowhere with my complaints for a month and a half but when I started beating them on Google, they wanted to talk," said Mr Sharman, from Leicester.

Mr Sharman and his girlfriend, who booked a holiday through Thomson for the Tunisian destination of Port el-Kantaoui, were led to believe they would find low-price food and drink, scuba-diving facilities and easy access to the Sahara.

On arrival, the couple discovered that alcohol was double the price quoted by Thomson, there were no scuba-diving facilities nearby, and the Sahara was a eight-hour drive away. The couple's room also had two single beds rather than a double.
