Travellers warned to avoid Samoa after deadly tsunami

(01 October 2009)

The Foreign Office (FCO) has advised against all but essential travel to Samoa following the devastating tsunami that hit the South Pacific islands of Samoa, American Samoa and Tonga on Tuesday.

The two-year-old son of a British couple was among 119 confirmed victims of the tsunami.

The FCO has not changed its travel advice for Indonesia, after more than 500 people were confirmed dead and thousands more missing or trapped in rubble following two earthquakes that hit the island of Sumatra on Wednesday and earlier today.
