Shopping in Palma
Palma is rapidly becoming a mini Barcelona, with numerous chic boutiques and design shops opening in recent years. The most exclusive shops flank Avinguda Jaume III. The morning market, Mercat Olivar, on Plaça Olivar, is the best place for fresh produce, while the main shopping district is located in the streets around Plaça Major, with its small, specialist shops.
Look out for traditional Mallorcan shops: Artesanies Pol, Carrer de l'Unió 13, for ceramics; Casa del Olivo, Carrer Pescateria Vella 4, for olive-wood products; Majorica, Avinguda Jaume III 11, for cultured pearls; and Vidrierías Gordiola, Carrer de la Victoria 2, for glassware.
Most shops open Monday to Friday 0900-1300, 1630-2000 and Saturday mornings. Hypermarkets stay open all day, and the main department store, El Corte Inglés, Avinguda Jaume III 15, is open Monday to Saturday 0930-2130.
