Hotels in Panama City
There are quite a few options for hotels in Panama City, from renovated colonial buildings in the Casco Viejo to the huge, shiny skyscrapers downtown. Accommodation-wise, this is the most expensive city in Central America, but there are still cheap hotels to be had and several upscale hostels and guesthouses to stay in.
The Panama City hotels below have been grouped into three pricing categories:
Luxury (over $150)
Moderate ($50 to $150)
Cheap (up to $50)
These Panama City hotel rates are based on double occupancy of twin or double room at standard rate, including breakfast for two and all taxes.
DeVille Hotel
This is one of Panama City’s top-end boutique hotels, located in one of the city's most romantic spots. Each of the 33 rooms are individually (and impeccably) decorated. The difference here is in the details right down to the antique furniture that graces each handsome room. Beautiful and classy, with rooms and suites available at rather high prices but you won’t be sorry.
The Bristol
The capital's most elegant hotel is a five-star class act, complete with marble and hard wood furnishings, abundant fresh flowers and a 24-hour butler service. The Bristol contains 56 intimate rooms, a great restaurant and a gym.
The Canal House
Right in the beautiful and historic Casco Viejo is this absolute gem of a boutique hotel. It has three suites of varying sizes and prices, all of which are wonderfully decorated and kitted out with all the mod cons. The staff are known for being attentive and helpful and breakfast is cooked to order. Well worth splashing out for.
Hotel Riande Continental
Centred on a palm tree-fringed swimming pool, this sophisticated Panama City hotel is an excellent choice if you're searching for low-key luxury. Spacious rooms offer modern furnishings and sweeping views of the Panama City skyline. All rooms have a mini-bar and cable TV, and there is a surcharge for the Wi-Fi which is available all over the hotel.
Las Clementinas
Las Clementinas is another Casco Viejo charmer, in a fully-revamped colonial building in the most beautiful part of town. They have gone for understated elegance and style here, and have definitely succeeded. Furnishings are either original antiques or perfect replicas. Las Clementinas also has a bar and cafe with great food.
Las Vegas Hotel Suites
From single studios to family suites, Las Vegas Hotel Suites offers a very decent place to stay at reasonable prices. The rooms are big and clean, the staff are helpful and they have an excellent restaurant. They have all sorts of facilities including a gym, laundry and Wi-Fi, and are to be found in the El Cangrejo neighbourhood of Panama city, two blocks from Via España.
Casa de Carmen
Panama City's best-loved budget accommodation, this charming bed and breakfast is located in a friendly and relaxed colonial home. Only a block away from Via España, which is chock-full of restaurants, supermarkets and facilities. Guests congregate around the communal areas, which are strung up with ample hammocks for all. Rooms are all individually decorated and there is free internet access.
Hospedaje Casco Viejo
One of the most popular guest houses in the Casco Viejo, this place is located in one of the beautiful colonial buildings and provides internet access, fully equipped kitchen, TV room and lovely terrace overlooking the Old Quarter. There is a disabled toilet, free towels and linen. Always popular, always welcoming.
Luna’s Castle
Brilliant and bonkers, Luna is a hostel extraordinaire, with both dorms and private rooms at great rates. It provides all-you-can-eat pancake and banana breakfasts, guitars lying around for a strum and the most astonishing trust policy ever – open entrance, unlocked beer fridge, free leftover food. The reason it’s good to know about Luna is that the hostels organise the best tours and transport, and Luna is an excellent choice.
