Phoenix is a popular destination for an evening’s entertainment, with lively clubs and bars keeping their doors open into the early hours of the morning. For fans of this rock and roll legend, a visit to his restaurant and bar is a must. It’s not quite what you’d expect from this makeup wearing rocker, as it’s his love of sports that’s more evident here. The bar is a veritable shrine to all things competitive, although it does also host other events such as regular fashion shows, which much more what you’d expect to see from Mr Cooper.
Dan Majerle, a former major basketball player for the Phoenix Suns, has lent his name to this contemporary sports bar which is popular for its Tuesday night karaoke, game nights and speciality cocktails. The ambience is relaxed and friendly; just don’t talk during a touchdown. The bar offers a late night menu which caters for hamburger and hotdog lovers – it’s like being at a game except without the crowds.
This Mexican-inspired restaurant also offers a bar with the best Margaritas in town. There is a party atmosphere as well as an impressive cocktail menu. The bar boasts a Tequila list as long as your arm. The Salty Señorita hosts a variety of events, including chicks salsa, and a Gospel brunch which sees patrons make their own omelettes and Bloody Marys.
Clubs in Phoenix
Enter here for a mix of sounds, from Brit-pop to New Wave. This is a favourite haunt of celebrities with names such as Travis Barker putting in an appearance. The décor is modern and a little outrageous, with over-the-top candelabras and chandeliers swinging above velvet couches. Dress to impress in this crowd as it’s the best venue for the young, hip and trendy.
This unique venue, built over two floors, has the attraction of playing host to DJs and dance tracks on the top floor, and live music on the ground floor. Some well known acts, from Coldplay to Avril Lavigne, have strutted their stuff on the stage downstairs before making it big.
This trendy nightclub is the place to be seen at the weekend. The music is an eclectic and fierce mix of Hispanic pop music, with a little reggae thrown in. Regular events, guest DJs and occasional live acts keep this club well up in the popularity list. It is by far the most popular club for local party-goers determined to dance the night away, and the music doesn’t stop until you do.
Live Music in Phoenix
This rustic, western bar welcomes new acts every week, giving raw, undiscovered talent the chance to showcase their music. There is a resident country band as well, and it’s western theme springs into action with regular line dancing nights – as well as free lessons for those who are yet to pop their hoedown cherries. Cowboy boots are optional.
This club is a one-stop shop for nightly entertainment. Different acts appear on the stage every night and the club advertises forthcoming events on its website one month in advance. Blues music is a favourite, although any act with talent is welcomed. Tickets are available on the door or through Ticketmaster, but the venue does get packed, so advance booking is advisable.
Classical Music in Phoenix
Recreating the classics, from Carmen to Otello, the Arizona Opera is a no-expense spared production company with a flair for the dramatic. The company regularly provides performances at the Phoenix Symphony Hall, which is also home to the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra. Details of all the symphony hall’s events can be found on its website or by visiting the venue. Tickets are best purchased in advance, online or at the box office.
Theatre in Phoenix
When only the big names in theatre and music will do, the Celebrity Theatre is the venue of choice. Regular performances from famous stars fill up this halls’ events listing with everything from comedy to slots and burlesque performances, to wrestling matches and kickboxing fights. The theatre is often the Phoenix stop on major celebrities’ tour schedules, so performances change regularly.
Step through these doors and you’ll leave with a smile on your face. This comedy club is Phoenix’s favourite venue for laugh-a-minute entertainment. It hosts regular weekend entertainment as well as a regular open-mic night for stand-up comedians. The venue sells tickets on the door as well as through the website, and the entertainment is posted in advance.
