Driving directions: 

The main road to Madeira Airport is the Via Rápida (R101), and the drive from the centre of Funchal to the airport takes around 15 minutes.

Public Transport

Public transport road: 

Bus: Buses run hourly (with some variations during the day) between Madeira Airport and Funchal city centre. The journey time on the regular service bus is about 25 minutes, and the fare €2.75, while the Airport Express bus costs €5 to and from Praia Formosa.

Money: 

A bank, a currency exchange office and several ATMs are available in the terminal building.

Communication: 

There are Netpoint machines in the terminal. Wireless Internet access in available in certain areas of the terminal building at Madeira Airport. A post office is also present in the terminal on Level 1.

Food: 

There are a number of cafés, bars and restaurants in the terminal building.

Shopping: 

Madeira Airport has quite a large shopping area. There are regional handicraft and flower shops as well as news stands and coffee shops in the public areas on levels 0 and 1. In the departure area on Level 2, products for sale include perfumes, local products, sunglasses, children's fashion, Madeira embroidery, leather products, travel accessories and much more. Duty free is available.

Luggage: 

A left-luggage facility is located on Level 0. The police station (tel: (291) 520 889) is located near the terminal, which deals with queries about lost and found items.

Other: 

Baby changing facilities are located in toilets in several areas of the terminal. The Portimar travel agency (tel: (291) 524 737) can be found on Level 1.

Airport facilities

Conference and business: 

Madeira Airport has two VIP rooms, one on the ground floor and another on the first floor. In addition, there are two other rooms for use by the media. Wireless Internet access is available in the terminal. Extensive meeting and conference facilities are available at the Vila Galé Santa Cruz Hotel (tel: 291 529 000; www.vilagale.pt), 3km (2 miles) away in Santa Cruz town.

Disabled facilities: 

Madeira Airport offers good accessibility for passengers with reduced mobility.

Car parking: 

Car parks 1, 3, 5, 6 and 7 are available to the public. A direct access walkway from the car park leads to the passenger terminal building, providing greater comfort to users.

There are seven car hire providers at Madeira Airport: Auto Jardim, Avis, Guerin, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt and Rodavante.

There are no hotels at Madeira Airport, but there are numerous accommodation choices in and around Funchal.
