Flying to Madeira

Flights to Madeira are served by Easyjet (www.easyjet.com) and the national airline, TAP Air Portugal (TP) (www.flytap.com), operates services to Funchal and Porto Santo from various European cities including London via Lisbon. There are internal flights between Funchal and Porto Santo.

Flight times:

From London to Funchal is 3 hours 40 minutes. From New York to Funchal is 10 hours. Flights are at their most expensive during the peak months of July and August.

Driving to Madeira

Madeira can be accessed by car only by means of a car ferry from mainland Portugal.

Getting to Madeira by boat

Madeira is very accessible by water. The major port is Port of Funchal, which is a main calling point for internationl and European cruise liners.

Ferry operators:

Naviera Armas (tel: 902 456 500; www.navieraarmas.com), operates sailings between Portimão, in the Algarve on mainland Portugal, and Funchal. The boats, which depart weekly from June to September, offer additional services to Las Palmas and Tenerife in the Canary Islands. Funchal is also served by major cruise lines. Ferry services from Madeira to Porto Santo take between two and three hours depending on weather conditions.
