Things to do in Prague
For those who really like to throw themselves into a trip, Prague’s first bobsleigh run - an all-weather facility located on the city outskirts - is now open to the public, and makes a great day for adults and older children after a little high-speed excitement amid the sightseeing. In fact, visitors have the chance to fuse the two, with special ‘sunset runs’ offering a terrific view over twinkling Prague at dusk (if you’re brave enough to look) as you hurtle downhill at speeds of up to 62kph (39mph). Alternatively, simply watch from the restaurant bar located at the top of the run.

Popular in Prague, and possibly fuelled by the ‘stag activity’ market, there are numerous opportunities around the city to go and unload some serious automatic weaponry at one of the many shooting ranges, most of which have sprung up on the old military bases around the city outskirts. Here, under close instruction and supervision from ex-military trainers, you can take your pick from an armoury you’re not going to get your hands on as a civilian in the UK, including magnums, glocks, M16s and the Red Army’s machine-gun of choice, the AK-47.

After a few days sightseeing at ground level, what could beat a bird’s-eye view of a beautiful historic city, far above the rush and bustle of the tourist throng? If you can’t think of an answer, you’ll probably want to take one of the hot air balloon flights that operate here daily and year-round as long as weather conditions are correct. Taking off from the countryside just outside Prague, this is an unrivalled way to view all those wonderful landmarks afresh.
